BRAȘOV
ROMANIA
From the Carpathians to the Danube
Romania, is a country of remarkable contrasts and deep-rooted identity, situated at the crossroads of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Shaped by centuries of history and enriched by diverse cultural influences, Romania offers a unique blend of tradition, modernity and natural beauty – a fitting host for the European Youth Olympic Festival Brașov 2027.
Romania’s landscape is defined by balance and harmony. Almost equally divided between mountains, hills and plains, the country is dominated by the Carpathian Mountains, which arc through its centre and provide a dramatic natural backdrop. The highest peak, Moldoveanu (2,544 m), stands as a symbol of endurance and resilience, while the surrounding forests and alpine meadows support one of Europe’s richest biodiversities. These mountains have long shaped local communities, traditions and a strong connection to outdoor life and sport.
Flowing from west to east, the Danube River forms much of Romania’s southern border and represents both a natural and cultural artery of Europe. At its journey’s end, the river creates the Danube Delta – a UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve and one of the continent’s last great wildernesses. This unique ecosystem, together with the Black Sea coastline, highlights Romania’s commitment to preserving nature while embracing sustainable development.
Romania’s cultural heritage mirrors its geography. Ancient Dacian roots, Roman legacy, medieval Saxon towns and Eastern Orthodox traditions coexist with a Latin language and a modern European outlook. Historic cities such as Brașov, Sibiu and Sighișoara preserve their medieval character and vibrant cultural life, while rural regions continue to celebrate craftsmanship, folklore and hospitality passed down through generations.
Discover the places and sports that shape the spirit of Romania, where landscapes, tradition and athletic excellence come together to create a unique setting for competition, culture and unforgettable experiences.

Brașov
Brașov County lies in east-central Romania, at a key crossroads linking the Balkans with Europe. Covering 5,363 km² (2.2% of the country), it has over 600,000 inhabitants, mainly Romanians alongside several ethnic minorities. Characterized by a balanced mix of high mountains, rolling hills, and intramontane depressions, the county combines outstanding natural beauty with a strong historical and cultural heritage. Medieval towns, fortified churches, castles, and renowned mountain resorts define the area, which will serve as the main geographical framework for EYOF Brașov 2027. Historically part of Transylvania, Brașov County has long been a meeting point of cultures and trade routes, shaped by Romanian, Saxon and Hungarian influences. This multicultural legacy, combined with a compact geography and excellent mountain conditions, creates an ideal regional model for delivering a winter multi-sport event. The county’s strong outdoor culture and experience in hosting major events align naturally with the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship.
Poiana Brașov
Poiana Brașov, Romania’s most prominent mountain and winter sports resort, is located just 12 km from Brașov City on the slopes of Mount Postăvarul. With decades of experience in hosting national and international winter sports competitions, Poiana Brașov represents the heart of Romania’s alpine sport tradition. Its reliable winter conditions, altitude and modern infrastructure make it a natural centrepiece for EYOF Brașov 2027, offering athletes a high-quality competitive environment set in an authentic mountain setting.
